How Does Our Garden Grow?

Here are some smiling faces that represent Brookshire Farm.  Last winter, Zee and Bee wanted to be active participants in our Farmers Market.  They dubbed their enterprise Zerelda Farm, set a goal for how much money they needed to earn, and we put on our thinking caps.

Plant starts last spring

Brookshire Farm has collected Louisiana Iris for several generations, so Grammie suggested the children dig and pot some iris for the Market; and in January, we started some vegetables from seed which rounded out our plant and vegetable sale.  Lafayette's Hub City Farmers Market hosted Zerelda Farm in March. Thanks to our customer support, the children exceeded their goal to purchase a dinosaur set, complete with volcano and a stalactite that can trap a dino in a cave.  Now how cool is that?

           

Here are the first tomatoes harvested at the end of May.  The heirloom in front weighed 1 3/4 pounds which was big enough for a salad for 4.  Plus, we canned 9 pints of chopped tomatoes.

Life evolves.   Zee and Bee welcomed a baby sister, Althea Anne, on March 3rd (at the hospital next door to the Market.)  And, in April their branch of our family made New Hampshire their primary residence for the next few years.  If the weather is kind to our garden, maybe Zerelda Farm will be back at the Market in June when Zee and Bee are home for the summer.  And our resident Farm Ambassador, Cece, will be big enough to help.
